Spaceflight - Mars-missions

The upcomming launch and jurney to Mars of the curiosity rover, will be much different than previous missions, because of it's weight. SEE VIDEO of it's jouney here

The two present Mars-rovers Spirit and Opportunity landed on Mars in two seperate 'air-bags' which bounced the surface like a ball.

The next rover which is to be launched this autumn, is however too heavy for this kind of descent. It's dscent vehicle will break with rockets, and should put the rover gently on the surface of Mars.

NASA has prepared this video, to show the duration of the ½ month long journey
