Two amateur astronomers have independently captured a meteor impacts on Jupiter June 3

It is the second time within a relatively short time that amateur astronomers have caught an impact on Jupiter. Planetary Society has confirmed that it

It is remarkable that thsi impact is bright, unlike the previous impacts  in 2009 and 1996 that emerged as a black smudge in Jupiters cloud-covers. Ist is most likely that this impact was caused by a meteor that burned up or exploded in the atmosphere, while the others disappeared into the cloud cover and disrupted the cloud formations to nproduce the darker spots

The difference between them would have been that while the earlier impactors where larger and softer comets, this was a denser metallic asteroid
