Did comet sbring water to Earth? Usually water from comets have different isotopic content than water on Earth, and can thus only acount for some of our water, but the new study of comet Hartley2 reveals for the first time water similar to our own, which opens the possibilty that our water indeed coul originate from the early cometary impact-showers.

Comet Holmes in 2007

600.000years ago, mans ancestors might have looked up and seen a brihgt comet in the sky, wandering what it was. Now the same comet returns, passing close by Earth Oct. 16th to a new renevouz with the Sun.

Meteor-showerA telegram was issued on July 10th by the Central Bureau for Astronomical Telegrams of the International Astronomical Union announcing that the Earth got impacted for a few hours by a stream of dust from a potentially dangerous comet last February 4.

Comet 103P Hartly2NASA's EPOXI spacecraft came within 600km of Comet Hartley 2, a small comet less than 1km diameter, which takes about six and a half years to orbit the sun. Designated officially as 103P/Hartley 2, the comet thus became the fifth for which scientists have collected close-up images.
