Close encounter with asteroid Lutetia

Asteroid Lutetia has been revealed as a battered world of many craters. ESA’s Rosetta mission has returned the first close-up images of the asteroid showing it is most probably a primitive survivor from the violent birth of the Solar System.

KBOFar beyond the orbit of Neptune in a region known as the Kuiper Belt float thousands of icy, moon-sized bodies called Kuiper Belt objects. They are the remnants of the planetformation 4½ billion years ago. But unlike Earth, KBOs haven’t changed much over time and may hold clues about the early solar system.

The Asteroid Explorer "HAYABUSA" successfully separated its capsule in the evening on June 13  and re-entered the atmosphere to complete its mission operation this morning
