Galactic storms with wind-speeds exceeding 1000km/sec clears entire galaxies of interstellar matter
German astronomers using the PACS Instrument (Photodetector Array Camera and Spectrometer) on the ESA IR-space-telescope Herschel, shows that galactic winds from the galactic centers, can have wind-speed exceeding 1000km/sec. These fierce galactic storms is known to clear entire galaxies of the interstellar matter, which is supposed to create new populations of stars
The results has been achived with the unprecended resolution of the Herschel space telescope and it's 3,5meter main instrument Source: DLR.de (in german) |
